In Montgomery, Alabama (1955), Rosa Parks rejected giving up her seat on a bus in which played a significant role in fueling the American civil rights movement.

The community's leaders were moved by her actions to plan the Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted over a year. Parks gained national recognition over the course of the following as a symbol of bravery and power in the fight to eradicate racial discrimination.
